Earlier in June we had received from a friend an old wooden
swing set. Although the swing set really had seen better days, we gladly took
over the ownership of it with the thought that Richard could renovate it in no
time (the set really had some good bones).
Our initial plan was to keep the tower in tact while Richard
went behind the scenes repairing the broken stairs, painting it, and reinstalling
the slide and swings (all done with the back door window covered so hopefully Emily
wouldn’t notice). Our plan: surprise Emily on her birthday with one very fancy “used”
swing set. We knew she would be ecstatic! What we didn’t anticipate was her
figuring everything out by just the sight of a wooden tower. Instead of just
asking me “what’s this?”, she ran out to the middle of the yard, talked one of
us into lifting her up, and then pulled out her official “Princess Pointy Finger”
and proceeded to give her “Official List of Demands”…
Emily (pointy finger fully extended): “Slide here…slide here…go
down…Ok Daddy, let’s fix it!!" (and you better believe it…she was grinning from
ear to ear)
So that’s when the swing set got put together…
It’s also when Plan B was put together for her birthday
present.

That’s when I started to panic. My family was leaving me for San Antonio in 3 days and I was going to be all alone for an entire week with 1 hyperactive dog, 1 45lb “I’m a lap dog” dog, and 1 “leave me alone I allow you to live here” cat. It saddened me. Who would cuddle up with me (other than the 45lb “lap” dog)?
So I adopted a cat.
The only problem is the other animals don’t like the cat and
the cat doesn’t like them. Sooo I’m still on the couch alone. Yeah, how’s that for
working out…

I love how perfect a child's perspective is. For Emily, Oscar’s death was
so simple. “Oscar went to go live with Jesus. Oscar and Jesus are at work. Bye
Oscar…Bye Jesus.”
I spent hours crying over his death and for Emily it wasn’t
the end. He is just busy working with Jesus…
